9K - $48K a year SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Reporting directly to the Center Director, the International Student Advisor is responsible for providing student services in non-academic areas of student life such as orientation, immigration counseling, college counseling, legal counseling, medical assistance, personal counseling, housing and social activities, and performing other duties as may be necessary or assigned by the Center Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Planning, coordinating and presenting the new student orientation program in conjunction with other Center personnel.
Counseling and assisting students with immigration matters.
Maintaining up-to-date information on SEVIS regulations.
Counseling and assisting qualified students with college selection and admission.
Keeping an extensive library of college catalogues and placement guidebooks.
Communicating with admissions officers to verify admissions requirements for international students.
Maintaining a list of qualified doctors, dentists, personal counselors and lawyers and acting as a referral source for students.
Assisting students in filing claims for medical insurance.
Keeping accurate records and communicating with the insurance company.
Maintaining information including, but not limited to, the following areas and acting as a referral source for students at:
banks, post offices, area transportation, travel agencies, rental car agencies, recreational facilities, social services, campus resources and international student organizations.
Planning, promoting and conducting student activities and maintaining the student activities budget.
Assisting students with housing.
Performing other duties as necessary or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND
Experience:
Education:
College graduate from an accredited college/university or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Courses in cross-cultural awareness or counseling preferred.
Experience:
One year of counseling experience preferred in such capacities as youth camp counselor or college residence advisor.
Previous cross-cultural experience helpful.
COMPETENCIES:
The International Student Advisor must have the ability to work in a cross-cultural environment.
The International Student Advisor must also have good inter-personal communication and organizational skills, as well as an ability to handle a wide variety of job duties.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
The employee is frequently required to stand, walk use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms and exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job operates in a professional office environment.
This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
