Vehicle Description 1956 FORD FAIRLANE 2 DOOR HARDTOP CROWN VICTORIA TRIBUTE C-872 Ford production of the Crown Victoria was limited to only 9,209 examples of its chrome-looped Crown Victoria hardtop in the model's final year of 1956, so finding one in any shape can be a pricey proposition.
This is actually a 1956 Ford Fairlane hardtop that was modified, to match the appearance of an actual Crown Victoria.
The conversion has been accomplished by the use of Original OEM Ford Crown Victoria parts and executed convincingly such that the car would be welcomed at Crown Victoria Association National and Regional events the prior owner member has attended periodically for more than 15 years with this car.
It has some recent work including a new exhaust system, replacement fuel tank and brake maintenance.
It has a dealer installed continental kit and aftermarket front and rear upper bumper guards and upper extensions.
POWERTRAIN This Fairlane was built with Ford's optional M-code Thunderbird 292-cu.
in.
V-8.
The Y-block engine had a compression ratio of 6.
4:
1, with a Holley four-barrel carburetor and was rated by the manufacturer at 200 horsepower.
The engine is thought to be original to the car.
Its rebuild history is unknown, but the seller says the Fairlane shows evidence that the engine was removed from the car and repainted.
It starts well with no abnormal noises or excess smoke.
The three-speed manual transmission and overdrive unit shift easily and work properly.
EXTERIOR The paint on this Fairlane is Golden Glow Yellow with Colonial White believed to date to the late 1960s and is in very good condition, with no swirls.
Correct Crown Victoria components have been used in the conversion, along with Mercury door caps and quarter-window moldings.
Both rear quarter panels were replaced in the past and the car is free of rust, including the fenders, floors and rocker panels.
The front crossmember is solid.
A dent in the passenger's side roof molding is noted, along with overspray around the rear window.
The remaining chrome, including the side sweeps, looks be in very good condition.
The door and window seals are in good shape.
The glass is in good condition, and the exterior lighting is fully functional.
The underside appears to show the factory undercoating and is generally clean, presents as stock and is clean.
INTERIOR The seat facings, in contrasting shades of white and black vinyl, are in good condition and show no evidence of tears or excess wear.
The carpeting is in good condition, and the headliner is in good shape, with minor creases.
The painted steel dashboard's padded top is original, and looks to be crack-free.
No dash trim appears to be missing.
The factory instruments are operable but the fuel gauge is inaccurate below a quarter tank, and the original AM radio is inoperative.
The trunk has what appears to be a factory mat.
CHASSIS The car's most recent chassis service saw the outer tie-rod ends replaced and new wheel cylinders installed for all four drum brakes.
There are no leaks from the shock absorbers and the unassisted steering tracks straight.
The wheels are mounted with older-style bias-ply whitewalls.
